Day 3. Greetings from Stratton, Colorado

Boy, did we make up for yesterday.  Up early and on the road by 8:15.  Only traveled 290 miles yesterday.  Not good.  Only 390 on day one.  We need to make up some ground.
Skies are clear blue with only a few wisps of cloud.  Roads are clear with light traffic even through Wichita.  I noted the Kansans in Wichita are extremely friendly.  I was amazed at how many drivers smiled and waved at me when they passed me.  No one trying to cramp my style...what a relief.
A couple we met at the campgrounds last night was also on the same route, heading for a family gathering.  We ended up stopping at 3 rest stops minutes apart even though we were not traveling together.  The husband was also retired Navy and also named John.  The two guys swapped war stories while we wives shared Navy wife stories.  Nice couple.
Once we got on I-70 W, I recalled Kansas as being a state of almost infinite horizons, and winds that

can blow you off the road.  I worried how John was handling the cargo trailer but he said it wasn't that bad.  We made pretty good time what with potty breaks for the dogs and their people, but by the time we crossed into the mountain time zone we were both beginning to feel a bit worn out.  We definitely aren't as young as we used to be (or as young as we'd like to believe).  Time was at hand to start thinking of stopping for the night.  Using the ever popular All Stays phone app, I located a park in Stratton, CO.  It's not the nicest we've ever stayed at, but the price ($17.98) for full hook ups is wonderful news to my bank balance.  Got laundry to do, then relax and early to bed (hopefully early to rise).  We plan to make it a good way into Wyoming before stopping tomorrow.
424 miles today, and according to our Garmin 3147 more to go.  As an aside, my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 odometer is now sitting at 77,774.   Darn, 3 more miles for a perfect number (I like multiples of 11...go figure)
