SPRING----Yeah!!

Winter is over and Alaska turned green seemingly overnight.  One day, there were barely any buds on the trees, and the next, the pussy willows were popping up.

Then, magically, the trees were in leaf.

Time to start our spring cleaning.  UGH---the previous owner of our property was a hoarder and had small animal pens all over the property.  He also seemed to have this thing about tires.  Everywhere we looked, there were tires buried partially in the ground.
We've confiscated 29 by our last count and still we find them. Snow tires, summer tires, 14" tires, 17" tires, all with varying tread depths.  We just stacked them up by the shed, maybe they will find a home somewhere.  It would cost a fortune to send them to a dump.  I set aside 12 of them to use for making seating I saw on Pinterest.

Next on the agenda, get as much of the trash fence out as we can.  This poor moose came in for a nibble and couldn't even get to the lake for a drink of water.  While watching her try to get past the fence, I told John,"That goes tomorrow!"

We hired a couple of people to help us. and we kept finding fence (kind of like the tires, it just kept appearing.

The best thing is that  a couple of days after that, this young bull wandered into the yard, nibbled a bit on the willow, then went to the lake and was able to get a drink!

There were several dead trees on the property, so John got to use his chainsaw for the first time.  He made a pretty good lumberjack.  His trees fell exactly where he wanted them.  We now have the onerous task of splitting firewood.  (I'm gonna buy him a log splitter)

Now that we've cleaned up the majority of the old fence and other miscellaneous junk laying around, it was time to make a run to the local landfill.  We filled Goliath twice and made 2 trips.  Our evaluation of all this?  "Let's hire someone to do this"  We both have felt it for days.

Just the next day, they delivered our log home (in logs or course).  It looks like it will be a bit tougher than playing with Lincoln Logs were as a kid.

Somehow, we have to go  from this-------------------

                                                             To this-----------------------------

The big positive we've been looking forward to?  We can see and access our lake!

It hasn't been all work however,  John took time out to grill.

AND, after all our hard work, we treated ourselves to ice cream at MILLERS.  They have the best ever waffle cones.  Millers is also on the bus stop for tourists from the Royal Caribbean and Princess cruise lines.  Imagine 3 buses full of tourists stopping in all at once?  This happened while we were there.  The place isn't even that large.

Today, I did a job I'd been wanting to do for so long.  I built steps to get into the shed (without having to use a ladder, or being a climbing expert).

Tomorrow, I'll place the second set of steps I built today so I can get to the lower shed easily, instead of slipping and sliding on the slope.

Monday?  I build my raised garden beds.  I'm already behind a few weeks in getting this done, but the lumber is in the bed of my truck and I'm ready to tackle it.

Until next time my friends, take care, and if you're coming our way this summer, give us a call and we'll put the coffee pot on.  907-892-6918.  John & Sandi
